Antrim Girls Shelter - Antrim, New Hampshire
July 11, 2007

The New England District helps support Antrim Girls Shelter in Antrim New Hampshire, a project of Lutheran Social Services of Northern New England. And you can help the District with a gift! Just click the button below and "Give Now."

Antrim Girls Shelter provides a safe haven for girls who have been referred by the juvenile court. While at Antrim, girls work to regain control of their behavior, to catch up with school, to gain insight into their destructive behavior patterns and to learn new positive ones, and to heal broken relationships. Antrim provides an intense, short-term, structured environment for girls who may never have had stability before.

The shelter is staffed around the clock, so that someone is there when a girl is in need. The daily routine includes mandatory attendance at the on-site special education certified school, a system of rewards and privileges, daily and weekly chores and an hour of quiet study time. There is daily group and individual counseling as well. Although optional, almost all the girls attend the Bible study meetings.

The staff develops a plan for each girl based on her social history. Some girls are reunited with their families; others go into foster care; others may need long-term residential treatment care.

Antrim Girls Shelter is so successful in healing that many girls come back to visit and to share time with the staff who gave them beauty instead of ashes...praise instead of despair.
